The constellation Scorpius dates back far before the Greeks. The story in their mythology however has to do with the neighboring constellation, Orion. The reasons vary, but what is known is that a scorpion was sent to dispatch Orion for his arrogance, bravado, and threat to the balance of the earth. He succeeded and was placed among the stars as a reward. It’s said that Orion is still running from Scorpius, as his constellation sets in the sky as Scorpio rises.
