This print explores the story of Aquarius, and its most commonly associated Greek myth – the abduction of Ganymedes. Born to the founder of Troy – a man named Tros, Ganymedes was a boy of famed beauty. This caught the eye of Zeus, who wanted to possess this beauty for himself. He offered Ganymedes’ father the gift of magnificent horses in exchange for his son, which was gladly accepted. Deal done, Zeus took the form of a giant eagle and stole Ganymedes from the field where he was tending sheep. When he arrived in Olympus, he was given the duty of “cup bearer” for all of the Gods, and eventually granted immortality to reside for eternity among the stars.
