The lion who represents the Leo constellation has a few stories attached to it. The most famous of these is the story of the Nemean lion killed by Hercules as the first of his 12 labors. This lion would abduct young women to lure would-be heroes, set on saving the damsel, to their doom. Its skin was impervious to wood or metal, so Hercules used his brute strength to overcome the beast. He realized the powers its skin possessed, so, using one of the lion’s own claws, he took the skin for hemself.
